VAdm Dinesh K Tripathi takes helm as Vice Chief of Naval Staff, pays Tribute to fallen heroes

Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi assumed office as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff on January 4, 2024. In a ceremony, he paid homage at National War memorial.

New Delhi: Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi took charge as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff on January 4, 2024. In a solemn ceremony, the newly appointed Flag Officer honored the sacrifice of the nation's Bravehearts by laying a floral wreath at the National War Memorial. VAdm Tripathi, a distinguished alumnus of Sainik School Rewa and the National Defence Academy, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1985.

Specializing in Communication and Electronic Warfare, he served on frontline warships, including the INS Mumbai. His leadership extended to commanding Indian Naval Ships Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul. Before assuming the role of Vice Chief, he served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOCinC) of the Western Naval Command. Throughout his career, VAdm Tripathi held crucial operational and staff positions, such as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet, Principal Director Network Centric Operations, and Principal Director Naval Plans in New Delhi. 

Prominent achievements and recognitions 

Promoted to Rear Admiral, VAdm Tripathi served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) at NHQ. His tenure as Director General of Naval Operations witnessed a heightened tempo of Naval Maritime Operations. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic, he ensured the Navy remained a combat-ready, credible, cohesive, and future-proof force.

A graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, VAdm Tripathi received the prestigious Thimmaiya Medal. Furthering his education, he attended the Naval Higher Command Course and Naval Command College at the US Naval War College, winning the esteemed Robert E Bateman International Prize.

Beyond his military pursuits, VAdm Tripathi is recognized for his devotion to duty with awards such as AVSM and NM. A sports enthusiast, he avidly follows tennis, badminton, and cricket. His keen interest in international relations, military history, and leadership principles highlights his multifaceted approach to life. 

Married to Mrs Shashi Tripathi, an accomplished artist and homemaker, the couple has a son. Their son, a practicing lawyer, is married to Tanya, who contributes to the policy-making domain. In assuming the role of Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, VAdm Dinesh K Tripathi brings a wealth of experience, strategic acumen, and a commitment to safeguarding the nation's maritime interests.
