IIT Madras and Deakin University have proudly announced the establishment of the 'IIT Madras Deakin University Research Academy.' This initiative aims to nurture talented graduate research scholars from SAARC and ASEAN countries through collaborative projects, joint supervision, and meritorious scholarships. The academy, unveiled at the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet, received acclaim from Ms. Sarah Kirlew, the Australian Consul General in Chennai.
This partnership emphasizes the significance of knowledge and research collaborations in the Australia-India relationship. According to Ms. Kirlew, this initiative, built upon a longstanding partnership between Deakin and IIT Madras, will focus on cutting-edge research spanning clean energy, critical technologies, sustainability, healthcare technologies, and more.
Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, highlighted the academy's goal of integrating innovation, collaboration, and responsible practices for a sustainable future. Similarly, Prof. Iain Martin, Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University, expressed enthusiasm about strengthening collaborative research in strategic areas.
The joint PhD program, a cornerstone of this academy, will provide high-value scholarships, joint supervision by esteemed faculty from both institutions, and access to top-notch research facilities. The academy seeks to foster an ecosystem encouraging innovative research, industry collaboration, and the potential to influence policy-making on a global scale.
Joint PhD program:
Led by the Deakin and IIT Madras, the academy will create a network of academic and industry research partners. The four-year program will offer unique international doctoral training opportunities for early-stage researchers. It will enable the researchers to gain cross-sectoral skills and experiences that shall help forge international relationships enabling them to launch their careers in research.
