With the results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections all set to deliver yet another massive mandate for the NDA and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sources have told Republic TV about what is likely to transpire in the next couple of days and weeks as India gets a new government.
On Friday, just a day after the election results, a meeting of the outgoing Cabinet will be convened at South Block. During the meeting, the Cabinet will pass a resolution to dissolve the 16 Lok Sabha.
After the Cabinet passes the resolution, President Ram Nath Kovind will dissolve the 16th Lok Sabha, the term of which is ending on June 3.
Following that, on May 26, PM Modi is likely to call for a meeting of the BJP's Parliamentary Board - the party's highest decision-making body which is likely to once again name him Prime Minister-designate, after which he will meet President Ram Nath Kovind to formally stake claim to the post of the next Prime Minister of India.
The 17th Lok Sabha will be constituted before June 3.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday led BJP and its allies towards what looks set to be a resounding victory for a second term in office. Following the development, PM Modi took to Twitter and wrote "India wins yet again".
In the tweet, he further wrote, "Sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas = Vijayi Bharat" adding "Together we grow. Together we prosper. Together we will build a strong and inclusive India, with the #VijayiBharat"
At the time of publishing (4:35 PM), BJP was leading in 295 of the 542 Lok Sabha seats that went to polls in seven phases, while the Congress Party stuck at 49 seats, according to the trends by the Election Commission. The Prime Minister himself is leading in Varanasi with a margin of over 4 lakh votes while party president Amit Shah was ahead in Gandhinagar in their home state of Gujarat by over 5 lakh votes.
