NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday nominated the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal for the Upper House of Parliament, for the very first time, Republic has learnt.
The AAP's Political Affairs Committee (PAC), after the meeting, announced nominations for the Raya Sabha Elections, which are scheduled to take place on January 19 this year.
Meanwhile, the PAC also decided to continue with Sanjay Singh and ND Gupta for their respective second terms as the Rajya Sabha MPs.
During the meeting, Sushil Kumar Gupta – whose tenure as a member of the Rajya Sabha will end this month – also reportedly conveyed his aspiration to fully immerse himself in the electoral politics of Haryana, where the Arvind Kejriwal-led party wants to fight elections later this year.
Earlier, a Delhi court had allowed Singh, who was arrested in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, to sign forms and documents for his Rajya Sabha re-nomination.
Special Judge MK Nagpal had passed the order on the application filed by Singh, in which he had sought a direction to the Tihar Jail Superintendent to allow him to sign the documents.
