Bengaluru: BJP leader and Bangalore South candidate Tejasvi Surya on Friday sharpened his attack on Congress over their inheritance tax remarks, saying the grand-old party must practice it themself first by ensuring that they do not inherit the political legacies.

Tejasvi Surya said that the process must begin with Rahul Gandhi. He exuded confidence over winning all five seats in Bengaluru.

Surya said,” The alliance with the JDS has strengthened us a lot in the old Mysuru region. Please do not be surprised if we are going to be winning all 28 seats.”

Ahead of casting his vote in the second phase of Lok sabha elections, the party MP offered prayers at his residence. The saffron party leader is among the key contender in second phase of polling. 

Surya has been fielded against Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy to claim the Bengaluru South Lok Sabha seat.

The sitting MP also urged the voters to exercise their franchise disregarding heat and rain to make BJP emerge victorious. He said, “I want to tell the BJP supporters and voters that we are 80%, but on the polling day we come out and vote 20%, whereas the Congress supporters are 20% and they come out and vote 80%. Each BJP voter must come out and vote because our vote matters. If you are not voting, Congress' 20% is coming out and voting. No matter the heat, or the rain, it is your vote which will decide the future of the nation for the next five years. Please come out and vote."

Karnataka is voting on 14 seats today in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections. The state will again go to polls in the third phase of elections on May 7.

Karnataka, which sends 28 members to the 543-member Parliament, is witnessing polling on 14 seats namely- Udupi Chikamagalur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Chikballapur, Kolar.
The 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw the BJP securing 25 seats out of 28 seats in Karnataka. This time, the saffron party is contesting in 25 seats, with its state ally JDS vying for the remaining 3 seats. 

The three constituencies contested by JDS are part of the second phase - Hassan, Mandya, and Kolar. In the second phase, Bangalore South and Mysuru stand as key seats going to the polls today. From Bengaluru Rural, sitting MP Congress' DK Suresh is fielding against BJP's Cholenahalli Nanjappa Manjunath, son-in-law of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda. Voting began at 7 am on Friday and will conclude at 6 pm.

The 2024 general election is being held in seven phases till June 1 and votes will be counted on June 4. The first phase of voting for the seven-phased Lok Sabha election was held on April 19 in 102 constituencies across 21 states and UTs. According to the Election Commission, over 62 per cent voter turnout was registered in the polling.
