He said, "Under the leadership of the illustrious Prime Minister, we initiated our campaign 'Fir Ek Baar Modi Sarkar'. The trends coming so far are very pleasing in themselves. However, the joy that comes once the results come is a different matter. Trends show all 29 seats of Madhya Pradesh to the BJP. Also, NDA's seats are going above 370 across the country. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are doing what we had promised."

The Exit Poll survey was conducted in all districts across all the states of India. The methodology is random stratified sampling using predominantly three techniques Field surveys, CATI, and IDIs with key people in districts and Lok Sabha Constituencies. We then use a probabilistic model to determine the number of seats a party is going to win from the estimated vote share.

The survey results have been adjusted in proportion to reflect the state and district population across age - groups, religion, gender and caste.

The questions in the survey were designed to reflect the current scenario electorally and politically and to gauge the critical factors that might play a role in the voting preference of a voter. There is error margin of 3%.

3: 52 IST, June 1st 2024

Exit polls are calculated using a combination of sampling methods and statistical analysis by various agencies. The process involves several key steps:

Sampling: Pollsters select a diverse group of voters from different regions to represent the entire population, ensuring they include individuals across various demographics.

Questioning: The chosen voters are asked about their vote and other basic information, such as age and residence.

Data Collection: The responses are gathered and recorded systematically.

Weighting: The collected data is adjusted to ensure it accurately reflects the population. For instance, if there is an underrepresentation of young voters, their responses might be given more weight to balance the sample.

Analysis: Experts analyze the data to make predictions about the election outcomes based on the voters' responses.

Margin of Error: The exit polls also calculate the margin of error to indicate the level of certainty or uncertainty in their predictions.

These predictions are then shared with the public.

The 2014 elections witnessed a historic victory for the BJP-led NDA, albeit with a notable discrepancy between exit poll predictions and actual outcomes. While exit polls correctly indicated the NDA's ascent to power, they underestimated the magnitude of its victory. On average, exit polls predicted the NDA to secure 283 seats, with the UPA trailing at 105 seats. However, the actual results saw the NDA triumphant with 336 seats, including 282 seats for the BJP, while the UPA secured only 60 seats, with Congress at 44.

In the 2019 elections, exit polls painted a picture of the anticipated electoral landscape, with various agencies offering their projections. On average, these exit polls predicted the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to secure around 306 seats, with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) trailing at approximately 120 seats. However, the actual results surpassed these predictions, with the NDA clinching a commanding 352 seats, including 303 seats for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the UPA securing 93 seats, with Congress at 52.

Just hours before the release of the Exit Poll 2024 results, election strategist Prashant Kishor reiterated his prediction regarding the performance of the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections. He forecasted that the BJP could secure 303 seats, the same number they won in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, or possibly slightly more.

BJP president J P Nadda claimed that the Congress' decision to not participate in exit poll debates amounts to an "unequivocal confirmation" that the opposition party has conceded the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "Their hypocrisy is not lost on anyone. Let no one in Phase 7 waste their vote on them," he said.

3: 23 IST, June 1st 2024

The Congress has decided not to participate in any Lok Sabha exit poll debates on the television channels and said it does not want to indulge in speculation and slugfest for TRP. Congress spoksperson Pawan Khera said the voters have cast their votes and their verdict has been secured.

"The results will be out on 4th June. Prior to that, we do not see any reason to indulge in speculation and slugfest for TRP. The Indian National Congress will not participate in the debates on Exit Polls. The purpose of any debate should be to inform the people. We will happily partake in debates from 4th June onwards," Khera said in a statement.

Exit polls will be released starting at 6:30 pm after voting process concludes. Media houses will publish exit polls only once voting ends. The Election Commission had imposed a ban on exit polls from on April 19 until 6:30 PM on June 1, 2024.

An exit poll is a survey conducted after voting ends, aiming to predict the nation's mood and estimate how many seats each political party is likely to win. It is to be noted that exit polls are not the same as official election results. The official results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be announced by the Election Commission of India on June 4.
