Bollywood often has remade movies from other languages, especially Hollywood. However, rarely that seemed to have worked out. Aamir Khan reportedly seems to prepare for another Hollywood remake of Forest Gump, the Hindi version of which will be called Laal Singh Chaddha.
When Bang Bang released in 2014, the netizens reacted saying this movie was allegedly a complete remake of the Hollywood Knight and Day which cast Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Bang Bang was reportedly a semi-hit at the box office. The movie, whose budget was 1.6 crores, managed to collect only 1.91 crores at the box office. Karan Johar had also reportedly remade the Hollywood classic, Stepmom which starred Julia Roberts and Susan Saradon.
Karan Johar’s production called We Are Family had Kareena Kapoor and Kajol in the roles respectively. However, the movie did averagely at the box office. Other such examples are Akshay Kumar starrer Sarfarosh which is a remake of Silence of the Lambs, Heyy Baby which is a remake of Three Men and a Baby, God Tussi Great Ho is a remake of Bruce Almighty, and Players is the remake of The Italian Job. The Salman Khan starrer Partner which also cast Govinda is one of the few Hollywood remakes which made money at the box office. The movie is the Bollywood adaptation of Will Smith starrer Hitch.
Aamir Khan was last seen in Thugs of Hindostan which also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The concept was allegedly inspired from popular Hollywood franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. Although neither the producers or the cast have confirmed these rumours, netizens found quite a lot of similarities between the two movies, especially with Aamir Khan’s character. Notwithstanding these rumours, however, the movie was a major box office flop. While its budget was approximately 300 crores, the movie only made a little more than 100 crores at the box office.
After the failure of Thugs of Hindostan at the box office, Aamir Khan is venturing on yet another Hollywood adaptation called Laal Singh Chaddha. During a recent media interaction, Aamir Khan reportedly announced that Laal Singh Chaddha has been finalised as his next film which will be produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan Productions. Laal Singh Chaddha is the Bollywood remake of the 1994 release Forrest Gump featuring Tom Hanks. Forrest Gump is a comedy-drama that released in 1994. The movie is reportedly based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom.
Laal Singh Chaddha will be directed by Advait Chandan who also directed Secret Superstar. The script is being written by Atul Kulkarni. Aamir Khan has reportedly bought the rights to Forrest Gump from Paramount. The movie will tentatively release during Christmas 2020.
