Seeing Farhan Akhtar get into filmmaking was not a surprise for fans because his parents, Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani, were screenwriters. He thus grew up under the influence of the Hindi film industry. The young filmmaker managed to start his production house under the banner of Excel Entertainments along with Ritesh Sidhwani. Dil Chahta Hai

Farhan made his directorial debut with Dil Chahta Hai, which is considered to be one of the gems produced by Bollywood. This project gave Farhan and his production house a great kickstart to their career. The film revolved around three friends who plan a road trip to Goa. The film was loved by the audience and the aspiring director’s efforts were appreciated by the critics.

Lakshya

This film was Farhan’s second directorial film, which was released only three years after his critically acclaimed Dil Chahta Hai. The film is a romantic war-drama that starred Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles. The film revolves around a lazy young boy in Delhi who decides to join the IMA despite his parent's disapproval.

Don series

The Don series is a remake of the iconic, older version which was released in 1978 starring Amitabh Bachchan. There are currently three parts of the newest version of Don starring Shah Rukh Khan. Farhan directed all the three parts of the film, releasing the first part in the year 2006. The films had a gangster feel to it and Shah Rukh Khan’s personality just enhanced the style of the film.
