Laal Singh Chaddha: When Aamir Khan caught Kareena Kapoor off-guard

There are perks of being a star kid. The major one is obviously that they usually don’t have to approach filmmakers to be launched. And it seems the producers are so willing to launch them, that they don’t even ask the new star kids for an audition. Forget her debut, Kareena Kapoor Khan was not asked to give an audition even once in her nearly two-decade-long career. But this changed finally when Aamir Khan asked her to give an audition and shoot for a look test for the movie Laal Singh Chaddha. The actor revealed that she found the suggestion a bit odd when her co-star told her about it, but felt there was ‘nothing wrong’ with it. Kareena also shared that her husband Saif Ali Khan would take a dig at her about her stand about auditions, stating that even Al Pacino would audition for his roles.

In a recent interview with a popular journalist-critic, Kareena Kapoor Khan stated that true to Aamir Khan’s style, he wanted to be fully sure as far as Laal Singh Chaddha was concerned. The actor revealed that he called her ‘out of the blue’ one day, asking her to come over to read the script, and that he was extremely excited about it. The Jab We Met star termed the process as ‘organic’ as after reading the script, Aamir also told her that they should read scenes together. The 39-year-old shared that she was caught off-guard with the suggestion because she had never done an audition before. She then said that she thought if she could go ahead with it and then convinced herself that there was nothing wrong with it. 

The Chameli star then added that since times are changing, she  couldn’t behave like a ‘diva’ any more and that she had to evolve with the times. The actor revealed that Saif told her,  'What's wrong with you? Even an Al Pacino would test for the part. There is nothing wrong, we all have to be sure as actors and artists.'

Laal Singh Chaddha 

Laal Singh Chaddha is the official adaptation of Tom Hanks’ classic Forrest Gump. The movie is being directed by Advait Chandan of Secret Superstar fame and former manager of Aamir Khan. The movie hits the theatres on Christmas 2020.
