Shahid Kapoor was a part of Shiamak Davar's dance institute and made uncredited appearances as a background dancer in the films Dil To Pagal Hai and Taal, in the year 1997 and 1999, respectively. Kapoor also appeared in several music videos before his acting debut. His acting debut came in the romantic comedy movie Ishq Vishk in the year 2003. Ishq Vishk featured Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao in the lead roles. The pair was adored by fans and viewers alike and they were seen together in Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi and Vivah. Both films were big hits and Kapoor gained fame as an actor after these movies.

The actor faced a downfall in the following years as his movies did not perform well at the box office and kept the actor barely floating. In the year 2006, Shahid Kapoor was paired with Kareena Kapoor in the movie 36 China Town. The duo again shared the big screen with their romantic comedy, Jab We Met which was a hit in India. For his role in the movie, he received his first Best Actor nomination. From there on, Kapoor went on to establish himself as a prominent actor in the Indian Film Industry. Today, Kapoor is one of the highest-paid actors in Bollywood. His recent movie Kabir Singh was a big hit at the box office. It collected over 300 crores in the domestic market itself. Kabir Singh is said to be the second highest-grossing film of 2019.
