In an interview, Nawaz disclosed that the second season will outdo the first one. Then talking about his character Ganesh Gaitonde, he revealed that people will not know what to expect from the dreaded gangster this season. He also said that a good part of the upcoming season has been shot in Mombasa, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The second season of Sacred Games will explore Gaitonde's past in more detail as he meets Guruji played by Pankaj Tripathi, who remained elusive in season one. Turns out Pankaj has also shot for the series in Africa. The story arc of the gangster will continue in the flashback mode of course, as he was killed off right at the end of episode one. In the meantime, police officer Sartaj Singh's story will run in parallel in the present as he races against time to save Mumbai from an impending nuclear attack.

The series has had a change in the creative department as well, with Vikramaditya Motwane being replaced by 'Masaan' director Neeraj Ghaywan. He will be directing in tandem with Anurag Kashyap, who filmed all the sequences featuring Gaitonde.

Coming back to Nawaz, he also said that working with Anurag was now a natural decision for him as he pushed him as an actor like no one else could. He also confessed that he did not know what a big hit the show was until he went to Rome, where he found many fans of the show. Overall, it looks like fans of the series can expect something much grander and better in Season 2 as the story has now spilt out from streets of Mumbai straight to Africa.
