Aamir Khan Is 'Immensely Grateful' To Audience As Laapataa Ladies Named India's Official Oscar Entry

Laapataa Ladies, helmed by Kiran Rao, has been selected as India's official entry to the Academy Awards 2025. On Monday, the Film Federation of India, the apex body responsible for selecting India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars announced at an event in Chennai. Now, after Kiran, Aamir Khan has also reacted through his production house's official social media handle.

Aamir Khan pens heartfelt  gratitude note

Taking to Instagram, Aamir Khan Productions penned a note on Story thanking the Film Federation of India for choosing Laapataa Ladies to represent India at the Oscars. His Note read, "Heartfelt thanks to the Film Federations of India selection committee for choosing our film Laapataa Ladies to represent India at the Oscars! We are immensely grateful to our audiences, the media and the film fraternity for their overwhelming love and support for Laapataa Ladies. Thank you to Jio Studios and Netflix for being strong support. Love Team AKP."

Kiran Rao is deeply honoured and beyond delighted

Addressing the nod from the Film Federation of India, Kiran Rao addressed the media. Taking to her Instagram handle, she shared a note that reads, "I am deeply honoured and beyond delighted that our film Laapataa Ladies has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards. This recognition is a testament to the tireless work of my entire team, whose dedication and passion brought this story to life. Cinema has always been a powerful medium to connect hearts, transcend boundaries, and ignite meaningful conversations. I hope that this film will resonate with audiences across the world, just as it has in India."

She expressed gratitude to the selection committee for choosing her film over others. Kiran added, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the selection committee and to everyone who believed in this film. ​It is indeed a great privilege to be selected from among such amazing Indian films this year - who are equally worthy contenders for this honour.”

In her statement, Kiran Rao also mentioned the production houses for backing her film, including her ex-husband Aamir Khan's Production.
