The Bachchan family enjoys great media attention whenever they are snapped at an event, airport or meal date. Not just Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai, but also the youngest member of the family Aaradhya enjoys the media attention and even greets them well. However, do you know, the Bachchan family was once banned by press photographers?

Yes, it’s true and it all happened after the grand wedding ceremony of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in 2007. The whole paparazzo unity agreed to not click him at events and completely sideline from any visual coverage.

Bollywood paparazzo Varinder Chawla, in an interview with Hindi Rush, reflected on why they decided to ban the Bachchan family. He shared that Aishwarya and Abhishek’s wedding was a private affair held at the Bachchan residence, Prateeksha. The media was not invited and grand arrangements were made to keep the media glare away. However, the media decided to cover the event.

“I was stationed outside their house. We knew the points from where we could get the pictures, such as the entry area, but they parked a bus there! So, the entire view of the media was blocked. When they were coming to Prateeksha from their other bungalow, they had security provided by Amar Singh. When the media ran after breaking the barricade, to catch the glimpse, they (security) treated them badly and attacked the media. A lot of media persons were hurt,” he said.

This created a rift with the media declaring that they would not click photos of any of the Bachchan members. Every time Amitabh Bachchan or some other Bachchan showed up at an event, the photographers would put their cameras down or up in the air as a sign of protest. During group photos, they would exclude Big B and click on other's photos. This continued for some time and then Big B realised the tension.

How the Bachchan family sorted the situation?

On realising that this would not be good for their image as well as business. The family called for a personal meeting at JW Marriott hotel, where he addressed the entire media fraternity. Only after that, the ban was lifted.
