DYK: Emraan Hashmi was initially offered Aditya Roy Kapur's role in Aashiqui 2?

Emraan Hashmi was last seen in one of this year's major releases in which he essayed the role of a villain. While Hashmi has starred in several well-known projects over the years, like gangster, Awarapan, Jannat, Raaz: The Mystery Continues and The Dirty Picture, the actor recently revealed how he was once offered a film which went on to attain cult status - a film he failed to be a part of.

Emraan Hashmi was the first choice for Aashiqui 2

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Emraan Hashmi revealed how he had been the first choice for cult film, Aashiqui 2 which released in 2013. Emraan has worked with Aashiqui 2 director Mohit Suri on multiple occasions - for the unversed, the two are cousins. The actor however, rejected the film as he felt a fresh pair would be a better fit for the poignant love story.

He said, "Mohit approached me first for Aashiqui 2, and I was like this would work with actors who are fairly new, who don’t have a roster of past movies or an image with the audience and there would be a sense of discovering a fresh pair." The leading role of Rahul Jaykar was then offered to Aditya Roy Kapur, who was fairly new in the industry, who took on the challenge. The Mohit Suri directorial turned into a runaway success, catapulting the lead pair Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur to overnight stardom.

Does Emraan Hashmi regret not being a part of Aashiqui 2?

Despite the film being a massive hit, Emraan Hashmi does not hold any grudges about passing up the opportunity. He said, “I don’t ever have regrets with films I didn’t do. They were never meant for me to begin with.”

As far as working with Suri goes, the actor has collaborated with the director on seven separate projects, namely, Zeher, Kalyug, Awarapan, Raaz: The Mystery Continues, Crook, Murder 2, and Hamari Adhuri Kahani.
