Has Prateik Babbar Cut Ties With His Father Raj Babbar? Actor Changes Title to Smita Patil, Says 'Want To Be Like My Mother'

Prateik Babbar made the news after he got married to Priya Banerjee and didn't invite his father Raj Babbar and step-siblings Arya and Juhi Babbar. Following this, Arya expressed his displeasure over snubbing the Babbar family. Weeks after, Prateik opened up about his family missing from the big day and why he dropped Babbar surname. The actor now goes by the name Prateik Smita Patil.

In an interview with Times Of India, Prateik and Priya candidly opened up about their intimate wedding, but when asked about the actor's current family dynamics, he refrained from answering and simply said there would come a time when he would address the topic, but now is certainly not the time. However, his wife Priya didn't mince her words and said, "That family was never there. That person was never there in his life. So, I’m not sure why that question is coming up now." She further added not many will understand what a kid goes through when they lose their mother.

The couple ties the knot on February 14 in an intimate ceremony attended by Priya's family, who flew down from London, and Prateik's aunts and their close friends, including Pooja Hegde. "Everybody who we loved was there. So, whatever happened, we honestly don’t have any comments because it didn’t matter," said Priya.

Why did Prateik drop Babbar surname?

In the same conversation, Prateik was asked the reason behind dropping Babbar surname. To this, he replied he did to make him feel better. He shunned the opinions and said he needed to wholly and solely associate himself with his mother and her legacy. "I’m striving to be like my mother and not like my dad," he concluded.

Who was Smita Patil?

Smita Patil was the second wife of Raj Babbar, who died from childbirth complications in December 1986. She made her debut in the entertainment world with  Shyam Benegal's Charandas Chor (1975). Throughout her career in the industry, she starred in hit movies, including Bhumika, Manthan, Shakti, Waaris, Aaj Ki Awaaz and Arth.
