Salaar actor Shruti Haasan says she was 'never into drugs' as she opens up about sobriety
Shruti Haasan has opened up about being sober for the past eight years. She confessed to being addicted to alcohol for a phase in her life.
Shruti Haasan has had several hit films and successes this year. The actress is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Salaar. Shruti has recently opened up about her sobriety. Ahead of the release of the Prabhaas starrer, the actress spoke candidly about battling alcohol addiction.
Shruti Haasan confesses to being sober
While speaking with Untriggered with Aminjaz, Shruti Haasan opened up about why she decided to give up on alcohol and choose to be sober. When asked if she is a social person who attends a lot of parties, she noted, “I used to. But I’ve been sober for eight years now. So, it’s hard to tolerate people in party situations when you’re not drinking.”
However, the Salaar actress claimed that she does not have any regrets. She mentioned, “I have zero regrets, zero hangovers, and it’s just been the best to be sober for me,” she mentioned while stressing that she doesn’t judge anyone for drinking. “It might be a phase, or you might like doing it for the rest of your life, that’s chill.”
Shruti Haasan admits being addicted to alcohol
In the same conversation, Shruti Haasan also confessed to being addicted to alcohol. She even clarified that she never used drugs, but used to get drunk often. She said, “I was never into drugs, but alcohol was a big thing in my life. [After a point] It just didn’t serve me at all anymore, in any positive way… I was [always] hungover, and I always wanted to drink with my friends… So, I felt like it was more in control of me.”
As a part of being sober, Shruti also claimed that she has begun to distance herself from people who used to force her to go out partying. She claimed, “This, too, is part of being sober.” The actress also expressed a dislike for cigarette smoking.
