She first became popular in 2019 for her role as Zoya in the Amazon Prime Video series The Family Man. Later, her performance as journalist Sucheta Dalal in the Sony LIV web series Scam 1992 earned worldwide praise. With her growing popularity, Shreya is also very active on social media as she frequently posts her views. Recently, the Chup actress voiced her frustration with the Mumbai real estate market on X (formerly Twitter).

Shreya Dhanwanthary calls buying a house in Mumbai a ‘scam’

Shreya Dhanwanthary highlights a real estate problem in Mumbai, noting the increasing prices. It seems like, the actress tried buying a house in the city of dreams, but the high house prices in Mumbai are pulling her back. The Guns & Gulaabs actress took to her X handle to vent her frustration and wrote, “I have to say it: buying a house in Mumbai feels like a scam.” She added, “I regret still wanting to pursue this impractical and ridiculously expensive dream.”

Following her post, many users agreed and suggested she consider renting a home in the Maximum City instead. One user noted, "It's the same in all MNC locations," while another shared, “The alternative isn't always ideal. I avoided it for a long time and it made financial sense, but eventually, I gave in.” One more user mentioned, “A friend of mine moved to Bangalore just to achieve that dream. They bought a house in Uru.” Another user remarked, “I’m sure it’s not difficult for celebrities like you… I can’t imagine how ordinary people manage to buy one.” One user took a comic jibe on her post by writing, “Are you referring to Scam 2024?”

Shreya Dhanwanthary once faced a financial crisis

A few years ago, Shreya Dhanwanthary shared her experience with Curly Tales about the severe financial difficulties she faced before landing her first film role. She admitted she struggled to understand how she managed to persevere through periods of financial instability, near homelessness, and prolonged hunger. She described it as an inexplicable endurance, almost like a form of psychosis.

She shared, “Don't ask me how I did it. I don't know how I did it. I don't know how I stayed here, how I continued staying here...not having the money, to almost being homeless, to stay hungry for a long time. I don't know how I did it, some sort of psychosis for sure."
