Tumbbad Vs Ghilli Re-Release Box Office Collection: Vijay Loses His Crown To Sohum Shah
Tumbbad re-release box office will surpass Vijay's Ghilli re-rerun business within two weeks. The horror film hit the big screens again on September 13.
Tumbbad Vs Ghilli Re-Release Box Office: In its second innings at the domestic box office, actor-producer Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad has raked in ₹25.75 crore in eleven days. It was re-released in theatres on September 13 on popular demand from fans and is doing great business in its re-run. It is all set to become the biggest re-release ever, surpassing Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli.
Tumbbad box office business breakdown
Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and produced by the actor under his banner Sohum Shah Films, the atmospheric horror drama received critical acclaim when it released in theatres on October 12, 2018. It was a critically acclaimed film but failed commercially, collecting only ₹12 crore. However, it has turned the tables around the second time around. Until now, Vijay's Ghilli was the top-grossing re-release with ₹26 crore collection. Now, Tumbbad will surpass it to become the highest-grossing re-release in India so far.
Tumbbad has collected ₹25.75 crore (₹22.63 crore nett) in 11 days and will beat Ghilli collections this week. The film is being lapped up by the audiences after getting unnoticed during its initial run.
Tumbbad 2 greenlit
Sohum Shah has also announced a sequel to Tumbbad, a long-standing demand from the film’s loyal fanbase. Set in a Maharashtra village, Tumbbad explores Vinayak Rao’s (Shah) descent into greed and obsession as he seeks out a mythical treasure guarded by the malevolent entity Hastar. In an interview with PTI last week, Shah said Tumbbad didn’t reach viewers “properly” when it was released in 2018.
“Whenever I post something on Instagram or Twitter, there are only two kinds of comments — ‘When are you making ‘Tumbbad 2?’ or ‘Why are you not re-releasing the movie in theatres?’ People want to see ‘Tumbbad’ on the big screen. They have given me a lot of love and I want to give them another opportunity to watch this movie in theatres,” he had said.
