Sharmila Tagore opens up about adjustment with Kareena Kapoor after Saif Ali Khan-Amrita separation

Saif Ali Khan got married to Amrita Singh in 1991. After 13 years of marriage and two kids, the couple parted ways in 2004. Years after the Hum Tum actor fell in love with Kareena Kapoor and the two tied the knot in 2012. While it took work for Saif to manage his time with his kids from the previous marriage and second wife, his mother Sharmila Tagore also had to make some adjustments.

During her appearance on a chat show with Saif Ali Khan, the veteran actress was asked about the readjustment period with Kareena after Saif and Amrita’s separation. She said, “I had known Kareena earlier. Meaning I had met her earlier and she was very very nice. She is lovely and she is what she is. She was with us when Tiger was ill and when he passed away.”

Sharmila also talked about how she felt when she learned that Saif and Kareena were living together. The actress remarked, “She said it so naturally, that when I even think about it I sort of laugh. So simple and sorted she is. She is so direct and very clear.”

Sharmila Tagore recalls the time when Saif-Amrita got divorced 

Sharmila also spoke about the time Saif and Amrita got separated and called it ‘difficult’. She expressed her remorse for the divorce and stated that the family not only lost Amrita Singh but also Saif’s children Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. 

She recalled, “When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then it is not harmonious… I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt… so that stage was not nice but I tried.”
