During the show, host Amitabh Bachchan asked the actress about how she met Mansoor, and fell in love with the Indian cricketer. Responding to this, Sharmila shared that she was a cricket fan, and a cricketer fan.
“At a cricket party in Kolkata, we met. And then we exchanged telephone numbers. We were going to Nainital for 'Waqt'. That's when he scored a double century in Delhi so that was very famous. So, I called him and he was not at home. So, I left a message congratulating him for the double century as Sharmila Tagore,” said the 79-year-old actress.
She further revealed, “So, a few months later, in Mumbai, there was a funny call that I have received five air conditioners from London. Back then, all imported things were banned. I thought somebody was trying to get me into trouble. And l'll go to jail. I've never even ordered them. I got perturbed. There was a number given. So, I rang that number.
“On the other end, it was Tiger Pataudi. And he said ‘ha-ha-ha. It was a joke!’ That kind of joke, you know. So anyway. So that's how it happened. And he asked if we could go out for coffee. I said yeah, we'll go out for coffee,” she shared.
On being asked about how romantic Tiger was, Sharmila said, “Romantic and Tiger? You know we were near Narmada in Bhopal. I said that it's so nice, it was a full moon. Beautiful. I said let's go and sit near the river. And he said that he's not going. It's so late in the night and he won't go. That's it.”
Sharmila talks about Saif Ali Khan
Earlier, Sharmila appeared on a popular chat show with Saif Ali Khan and shared funny anecdotes from the Hum Tum actor’s childhood. Narrating the story, Sharmila said: "I wouldn't say he was a brat but he would cause anxiety all around. You never knew what he was up to. Breaking the glass happened accidentally because they were playing."
"So, there was this glass door, I was on the other side of the corridor and he came through, I could see the glass shards falling around him. And I knew I couldn't get there on time to see and do anything heroic. And it was just falling and missing him," added the Mausam actress. The Dil Chahta Hai actor laughingly added: "It was like Amar Chitra Katha, gifted kids, glass everywhere unscathed."
