It's controversial/ YouTuber Kamiya Jani aka Curly Tales’ Shree Jagannath Temple visit sparks row, BJP demands arrest

A row erupted over YouTuber Kamiya Jani visiting the Jagannath Temple in Puri and breaking rules by carrying a camera inside the premises.

YouTuber Kamiya Jani has courted controversy over her visit to the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. It is alleged that Jani is a promoter of beef consumption and since she was granted access to the shrine considered sacred to the Hindus, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised questions over it.

After the matter became public knowledge, Odisha BJP general secretary Jatin Mohanty demanded the YouTuber's arrest under section 295 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. A demand over her arrest has also been raised.

YouTube video sparks controversy, political party opposes

Kamiya Jani is known for posting videos where she discusses food. In her latest video, she was seen interacting with bureaucrat-turned-politician VK Pandian of the Biju Janta Dal. In it, he talked extensively about the importance of Mahaprasad at the temple, the ongoing heritage corridor project and other aspects linked to temple development.

However, the opposition party in Odisha, BJP objected to Kamya's entry to the temple. The party also alleged that a video camera, which Kamya used for recording, was used on the temple premises which is banned by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

Kamya Jani reacts to allegations

As the row over her entry to the temple escalated, Kamya Jani shared in her Instagram story that she does not consume beef. Her note read, “As an Indian, my mission is to take Indian culture and heritage to the world. I have been visiting all the Jyotirlingas and char dhams of India and what a privilege it’s been. Woke up to this strange article in the newspaper questioning my visit to Jagannath temple. Not that anyone has reached out to me but just here to clarify that I don’t and have never eaten Beef. Jai Jagannath.”

Temple administration reacts to allegations of 'breaking rules'

Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) wrote on social media, "The allegation made by a certain political party about YouTube influencer taking a camera to the temple premises is completely baseless. There is no truth in this. If anyone has any evidence, if they present it, it will be investigated and necessary action will be taken."
