Snow White First Review: Rachel Zegler-Gal Gadot Starrer Opens To Mixed Response Amid Myriad Controversies

Disney’s live-action film Snow White is mired in controversy over casting choices, portrayal of Seven Dwarfs and storyline changes. However, the first reviews of the film has surfaced on social media. Let’s know the verdict given by netizens. 

Netizens review Rachel Zegler-Gal Gadot’s Snow White

One X user named baby girl wrote, “Snow White is getting good reviews!? I’m glad because that’s what Rachel deserves. As of the other woman, she can find a hole to hide”.

Another user wrote, “Despite the bob being all over the place, #SnowWhite is quite charming! The message lands well, the critters are adorable, and Rachel Zegler and her enchanting voice are stunning. It almost got a full tear out of me, and I’ve never cried in my entire life.”

“Snow white getting decent reviews?”, wrote the third user.

Another X user wrote, “Rachel Zegler's Snow White only getting positive reviews despite all the doubts and it being internet's punching bag for the past few months. WE CHEER.”

“Snow White (2025) soundtrack: 8/10. Pasek & Paul did a very good job but this is not their best job but is great in terms of nowadays Disney musical movies. It was miles better than Wish & Moana 2 soundtracks but not better than Lin-Manuel Miranda's soundtrack in Mufasa”, wrote a user.

Matt Degroot, an X user wrote, “Despite becoming an internet punching bag Disney’s remake of Snow White is actually mostly successful! Rachel Zegler is an absolute star, (most of) the new songs are catchy and beautifully performed, and the visual palette is sumptuous and vibrant. Gal Gadot had beautiful gowns.”

Controversies surrounding Snow White

Despite both the actresses Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler have actively promoted the film, the hostility and differences is clearly visible. Beginning with Hollywood premiered on March 15, there were no red-carpet interviews and limited media access reportedly.

Rachel Zegler’s comments about the film sparked controversy. Being a German fairy tale, some opposed to having a Latina actress fIn an earlier interaction, she said, “ was scared of the original cartoon. I watched it once and then I never picked it up again. I watched it for the first time in probably 16-17 years, when I was doing this film.I mean its no longer 1937 and we absolutely wrote a Snow White...she's not going to be saved by the prince and she's not going to be dreaming about true love.”

She further added, "She's going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true. And so, it’s just a really incredible story for young people anywhere to see themselves in."

Disney hiring for CGI-generated magical creators instead of hiring actors with dwarfism upset netizens. This even drew criticism from actor Peter Dinklage and called the original story ‘backward’.

The original film, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’, was released in 1937 and was Disney’s first feature-length animated film. More than 85 years later, the cast and team behind the remake have promised an updated version of the classic fairy tale. The film premiered at Alcazar of Segovia in Segovia, Spain on March 12, 2025. It is scheduled to release in cinemas in United States on March 21, 2025. Apart from Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Snow White stars Andrew Burlap, Ansu Kabia, Hadley Fraser, Dujonia Gift and Samuel Baxter among others.
