Joker 2, Starring Joaquin Phoenix & Lady Gaga, Release Date Changed; Indian Fans Must Take Note

Joker 2 New Release Date: Joker: Folie à Deux is one of the most-anticipated films that is lined up for release. But fans in India are in for a surprise as the much-awaited Warner Bros crime drama will release two days earlier here than the rest of the world. The production house shared the news on social media today. Joker, its predecessor released in 2019 on the same date as its sequel will in 2024. Two new posters of the Todd Phillips directorial were also unveiled featuring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.

Joker: Folie a Deux also stars Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson and Zazie Beetz. Phillips' film is part of DC Elseworlds and is not set in the universe taken care of by new DC Studios heads Peter Safran and James Gunn. The musical will hit the screens on October 4 worldwide, but in India, it will arrive two days earlier.

Warner Bros shared the news on X, writing, "The most anticipated sequel is coming earlier than expected! 'Joker: Folie à Deux' releases in cinemas in India 2 days earlier, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 (sic)."

Earlier, there were rumours that Joker: Folie a Deux will reportedly be "a jukebox musical". The film is set to have at least 15 reinterpretations of “very well-known” songs, it was reported. According to sources, Hildur Guonadottir, the Oscar-winning composer of the first Joker film, is said to “infuse her distinctive, haunting (music) cues” into each number. This led to the speculation that the movie will have a distict tone from the first one. However, soon came the clarification from the director.

"We never really talked about it like that, but I like to say it's a film where music is an essential element. To me, that doesn't veer too far from the first film," Phillips said.
