Gong Yoo pays tribute to late Coffee Prince co-star Lee Sun Kyun

Days after attending Lee Sun Kyun's funeral, his Coffee Prince co-star Gong Yoo paid tribute to the Parasite actor on his Instagram handle.

Korean actor Lee Sun Kyun died on December 27, 2023, at the age of 48. His funeral was held at Seoul National University Hospital the next day, which was attended by several of his industry colleagues including his Coffee Prince co-star Gong Yoo. Days after the actor took to his Instagram and shared a tribute for Sun Kyun.

Gong Yoo's grief for his deceased co-star is also evident on his Instagram page. He recently posted a black image alongside Nell's 2006 song Limitation, the lyrics of which read, “The fact that who I am and who you need me to be are different. Isn’t something wrong. It’s not something to be sorry for. But why are you always so hard on me like that? What else can I do?” 

The actor is a frequent contributor to Instagram, sharing images from his life in a variety of categories such as acting, cooking, fishing, etc. Gong Yoo has deleted all of his Instagram posts since Lee Sun Kyun passed away, except for two, one of which was a tribute to the Mr Brain star.

Cho Yeo-jeong’s Instagram post 

In addition to Gong Yoo, Lee Sun Kyun’s Parasite co-star Cho Yeo-jeong also honoured him in her New Year post. Cho played Choi Yeon-gyo, the Park family matriarch, opposite Lee Sun-kyun, who essayed the role of Park Dong-ik in Bong Joon-ho directorial. The actress shared a throwback selfie on Instagram with Lee and other co-stars Choi Woo-shik and Park Myung-hoon from an awards show.

“I will never forget the honour of being together (with you). I will never forget (your) cheerfulness of always making everyone smile. I will be a warm and good actor like you. I’ll embrace a new year that is not pleasant. I’ll try to do well,” she wrote in the caption.

Lee was found dead last Wednesday in Seoul by South Korean authorities following up a report that he had gone missing. The actor had faced investigation over accusations of illegal drug use amid a government crackdown in which police questioned him three times.
