Mohanlal, who is termed a superstar of the Malayalam film industry, opened up if he and Mammootty would be the last 'superstars' of the industry or will the current lot of actors would join them in future. The actor revealed that one has to earn the title of a superstar through their work.
Mohanlal opens up about the future superstars of the Malayalam industry
Mohanlal and Mammootty are considered the last superstars of the Malayalam cinema. When asked about which actor can be next in line to be a superstar, to this, Drishyam star replied that this title is given to an actor by the audience and cannot be claimed for oneself. He emphasized his wish to see a number of actors emerge successful.
He said, "The term Superstar depends on the success of the actor. If the new actors can pull off such success, then he or she may get the title of Superstar.”
The superstar also highlighted a reason why there is a drastic change in terms of Superstar and said earlier the films used to run for 365 days a year but now newer films don't even manage to last 90 days in the theatres.
What's next for Mohanlal
After the success of his recently released film Neru, the veteran actor is now gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Malaikottai Vaaliban directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. The film is releasing on January 25, 2024. Next, he also has Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure in the lineup. He is also serving as a director for the film, slated to hit the theatres on March 28. Furthermore, he is reprising his role from the 2019 film Lucifer in L2: Empuraan directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is slated to hit the theatres in 2025.
