Salaar on OTT: Prashanth Neel's Prabhas led action saga eyeing an early 2024 digital debut?
Prashanth Neel's Salaar: Part One - Ceasefire released in theatres worldwide on December 22. A part two, in direct continuation of the first film, is underway.
Prabhas is currently enjoying the voracious audience response that his latest outing to the cinemas, Salaar, has been accruing. Salaar: Part One - Ceasefire released in theatres on December 22 and in just seven days of its theatrical run, the film has minted ₹ 374.85 domestically, as per a Sacnilk report, with its worldwide gross coming in at ₹500 crores, as shared by the makers. Despite the film being in the nascent stage of its theatrical run, reports of Salaar's OTT debut, has been doing the rounds of the internet.
Salaar to make its digital debut in January 2024?
Recent reports have confirmed that the Prashanth Neel directorial's digital rights have been acquired by streaming giant Netflix, for ₹162 crore in all five languages. While there was much speculation surrounding the date of this digital debut, a mid-January release appears to be on the cards for the film.
More precisely, the date being floated, is January 12, around the auspicious occasion of Sankranti 2024. If the price at which Salaar's digital rights have been sold are true, the sum marks the highest ever bid for a South Indian film. Interestingly, January 12 also marks the release of Prabhas' next pan-India project Kalki 2898 AD, helmed by Nag Ashwin. The film will see him share screen space with the likes of Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone.
Prabhas is elated with the response to Salaar
Salaar's success comes after the massive Adipurush debacle. Director Prashanth Neel recently shared how Prabhas is "over the moon" with the response for Salaar. Speaking about himself, the director said that as he has made the film it is close to impossible to feel completely satisfied with it - something he had also felt for the KGF franchise.
Neel said, "I mean, he is absolutely over the moon with something like this. I don't think any filmmaker is going to be completely satisfied. So I won't be satisfied even if it, even with KGF 2, I was not satisfied with what I did. So, I mean, his reaction is euphoric. We are all very happy that, we got Deva right in the movie..." Salaar: Part One - Ceasefire is currently running in theatres.
