Popular comedian Bonda Mani passed away on Saturday, at 60 at his residence in Chennai’s Pozhichalur due to kidney failure. On Sunday, film trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai confirmed the news of Bonda Mani's death. As per reports, on Saturday night, Mani fainted and was immediately rushed to the government hospital in Chrompet; after examination, the doctors declared him dead.

Bonda Mani's final rites

Sreedhar Pillai's tweet read, "Tamil cinema’s popular comedian Bonda Mani (60) passed away due to ill health." Sharing more details, the India Today report said Bonda Mani's body is being kept at his residence in Pozhichalur for homage and his final rites will take place at around 5 pm at a crematorium in Chrompet. He is survived by his wife Malathi, a son, and a daughter.

What do we know about Bonda Mani

Bonda Mani faced severe health issues because his health deteriorated around 2022. He was a diabetic patient. As per reports, he fainted when he was traveling on a bus in September 2022. Later, he was rushed to Omandurar Rajiv Gandhi Hospital for medical treatment, he was assisted by fellow comedian King Kong. Bonda Mani was depressed and the bill amounted to Rs 60,000 which was unaffordable for him during that time, especially with the lack of film opportunities. According to reports, both his kidneys started malfunctioning.

Bonda Mani acted in 270 films for almost three decades, and took several comical roles, as per reports.  He had been in regular comedy tracks. He was introduced in Bhagyaraj's Pavunnu Pavunudhaan, he acted in various films such as Ponvilangu, Pongalo Pongal, Sundara Travels, Marudamalai, Winner, Velayudham.

Mani made a breakthrough after his performance in Thendral Varum Theru (1994), and the film received positive reviews. He was cast in the Raj TV television soap opera Ganga Yamuna Saraswati (1998) in which he starred as veterans including M. S. Viswanathan. He eventually made his television debut through Ganga Yamuna Saraswati.
