Rupali Ganguly and her Anupamaa team, including producer Rajan Shahi attended an Iftar party in Mumbai on Monday. In one of the inside videos going viral on social media, the actress was seen praying with folded hands. Iftar is the fast-breaking meal of Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan.
In the viral video, Rupali can be seen sitting beside her co-stars Rohit Purohit, and Samriddhi Shukla, among others at a long table. She joined her hands to pray before beginning to eat the meal. Soon after the video was posted, fans flooded the comment section with their opinions. A section of the internet welcomed her actions, while others believed it was 'totally normal'. A user wrote, "Wat do u expect her to do ...pray namaz?...she's following her etiquettes which is very normal." Another wrote, "As a Muslim I appreciate this event. Muslims and Hindus are on one page." A third user wrote, "To kya problem hai ??? Respecting other faiths and practing ones own is perfect .. that's the way it should be."
Meanwhile, Rupali has been in the news due to her personal life after her stepdaughter accused her of breaking the family. In the latest development, Esha Verma called the actress 'evil'.
On February 13, Esha wrote on her Insta story, “Ty to the evil step lady for scheduling the next court date on my bday muah.” After a news portal posted a screenshot of her story, Esha quickly commented to clarify that she had uploaded it by mistake. She explained that the story was meant for a close friend but was accidentally shared publicly. “I use my socials to connect with my friends and share my thoughts—it’s always been a personal space for me. I was just typing out my feelings before bed and had meant to send it to a close friend, but it accidentally went to my story. I wasn’t trying to start anything or make this public—it was just me processing my emotions in the moment," an excerpt from her post read.
The controversy between Rupali and her stepdaughter Esha Verma, who is Ashwin Verma’s second wife Priyanka Verma’s daughter, started late last year after the latter claimed that the actress broke their family. She also called the Anupamaa lead actor an ‘abusive and toxic woman’.
Rupali responded by filing a ₹50 crore defamation case against Esha, leading to the latter deleting her Instagram post. In January, the Bombay High Court granted Rupali interim relief in a defamation case, restraining Esha and digital platforms from publishing or sharing defamatory content.
