Devara is going to be heavy on VFX, makers promise to not repeat mistakes of other VFX-heavy films
Devara has been slated to release on April 5, 2024. A few days ago, the makers had announced that there will be a major update regarding film on January 8.
Actor-producer Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, who recently had a release as an actor Devil: The Secret British Agent, is all now gearing up for his next big release as a producer Devara, a big-budgeted action spectacle that’s also mounted as a massive pan-India movie.. In a recent interaction, Kalyan Ram spoke about his ambitions with Devara, and also his future plans when it comes to VFX-heavy film making culture in Indian cinema.
We don’t plan our VFX scenes properly, Kalyan Ram said
Speaking to Film Companion, Kalyan Ram stated, “The thing about our industry is, that we fail to keep many things in consideration while planning our visual effects. We don’t plan which scenes we need to shoot entirely on VFX. It often happens that 3-4 days before the shoot, the team panics because either the set design or some other visual element doesn’t look good, so they decide to bring in the VFX team at the nth hour. And VFX does its job, but it’s not done in the best way.”
Kalyan Ram also mentioned how time plays a major impact in the planning of these projects. As a reference point, Kalyan Ram spoke about the perseverance of Hollywood films where they shoot for 60-70 days, and then keep around 12-15 months for VFX alone. “Where do we have such liberty?” Kalyan Ram pondered.
We have done research for 8 months for Devara: Kalyan Ram
The Devara producer also informed the interviewer that their team is trying to correct this practice with Devara. Elaborating on their working process, Kalyan Ram added, “We have done a lot of research for 8 months, on how this visual design needs to come out. In these 8 months, we prepared a clear storyboard. And whatever the storyboard operator told us, we decided to strictly follow those instructions.”
The Devara producer also informed that they had shot all the VFX-requiring sequences beforehand, and now they will proceed to shoot all the on-set sequences, hence leaving ample time for the VFX team to do their job properly.
Devara has been tentatively scheduled to release on April 5, 2024. A few days ago, the makers of Devara had taken to their social media pages announcing that there will be a major update regarding the film on January 8, 2024. Devara stars NTR Jr, Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor in prominent roles.
