Ahead of the talks with Wong, PM Modi received a ceremonial and red-carpet welcome at the Singapore Parliament House
Singapore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Singapore counterpart Lawrence Wong on Thursday morning on the second day of his visit, and the two discussed ways to boost bilateral ties. Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi will also call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and other senior leaders.
Ahead of the talks with Wong, PM Modi received a ceremonial and red-carpet welcome at the Singapore Parliament House during his two-day visit to the country. He also signed the visitor's book there.
Singapore is an Inspiration: PM
While holding delegation talks with Singapore delegates, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I thank you for your warm welcome."
"This is our first meeting after you assumed the post of Prime Minister. Many congratulations to you from my side. I am confident that under the leadership of 4G, Singapore will progress even faster. Singapore is not just a country, Singapore is an inspiration for every developing country. We also want to create many Singapores in India and I am happy that we are working together in this direction. The ministerial roundtable that has been formed between us is a path-breaking mechanism."
'A New Chapter'
Calling it "a new chapter", MEA Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared a post on X saying that both countries have now established "comprehensive strategic partnership."
"A new chapter in - ties: Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established. PM @narendramodi and PM @LawrenceWongST held a productive meeting in Singapore today," the post read.
"The leaders agreed to elevate the - ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They extensively reviewed various facets of the bilateral relationship covering areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalisation, Healthcare & Medicine, Skills Development and Sustainability," it added.
The meeting between the two leaders comes days after Wing took over as the premier and PM Modi began his third term after winning the Lok Sabha elections.
Digital Tech, Health, Skills Development and India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership: The 4 MoUs
During this visit, several MoUs were signed between India and Singapore in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore PM Lawrence Wong. At least four pacts on semiconductors, digital technology, health and skill were signed.
After the meeting, the Prime Minister will also meet with Singaporean business leaders and interact with those in the country’s semiconductor ecosystem.
