NEW DELHI: As tensions escalate between the Enforcement Directorate and the Tamil Nadu government over an ongoing investigation into the conduct of ED officer Ankit Tiwari, the former has now reportedly decided to shift the probe against its own officer to its New Delhi headquarters. It may be recalled that Tiwari was arrested the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) in Tamil Nadu on December 1 on the charge of allegedly accepting a bribe. In subsequent days, the situation escalated, with the ED seeking to register an FIR against DVAC officials for illegally entering its Madurai office and Tamil Nadu Police registering a case against 25 ED officials for allegedly interfering with the Ankit Tiwari case.

Now, the ED, which has launched into own probe into the case, has now decided to shift the investigation to its Delhi headquarters. According to anonymous sources quoted by the Times of India in its own report, this decision was taken out of fear of non-cooperation and meddling by state authorities.

The investigative agency has registered an Enforcement Case Information Report against Tiwari, which, according to sources quoted by Hindu, usually precedes any initiation of action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
