Bengaluru: A Bengaluru-based software project manager, Rakesh Khedekar, has been arrested for murdering his wife, Gauri Sambekar, in a fit of rage after a heated argument. The crime took place at their Doddakannahalli residence, where police discovered Gauri’s body stuffed inside a suitcase in the washroom.
According to reports, the couple frequently had arguments, and on March 26, one such fight escalated. Gauri, in anger, allegedly threw a knife at Rakesh, injuring him. Enraged, Rakesh picked up the same knife and stabbed her multiple times before killing her on the spot.
What followed was chilling. After the murder, Rakesh ate a meal at home, then called his in-laws to confess to the crime before fleeing to Pune in his car. He later informed a carpenter near his apartment about the incident at 2:30 AM, before finally surrendering at Shirwal police station in Pune.
Police launched an investigation after receiving an alert about a suspected hanging. Upon arrival at the couple’s home, they found Gauri’s body in a suitcase with multiple injury marks, confirming a brutal murder. Rakesh was arrested in Pune, where he had attempted suicide and is currently undergoing treatment.
The couple, both originally from Maharashtra, had been living in Bengaluru. Gauri held a degree in Mass Media and Communication, while Rakesh worked in the IT sector. The postmortem report is awaited, and police are continuing their probe into the case.
