Bhopal: A 20-year-old NEET aspirant addicted to his mobile phone killed his mother and left his father critically injured. As per reports, the incident occurred in Sikandra village panchayat under Waraseoni police station in Balaghat district.
The student had reportedly returned from Kota after dropping out of an institute last August.
The accused, identified as Satyam Katre, lashed out at his mother, Pratibha Katre, and father, Kishore Katre, after they tried to stop him from using his mobile phone on Monday night.

He attacked both his parents with an iron rod after his father told him to stop using the phone. He was reportedly unable to cope with the pressure of clearing NEET. He later informed his relatives and the police about the attack.
The injured were rushed to Gondiya in neighboring Maharashtra for treatment.

Abhishek Chaudhary, the subdivisional police officer of Waraseoni in Balaghat, stated that the accused confessed: “His parents used to repeatedly scold him for not preparing for NEET as they wanted him to become a doctor.”
His mother, Pratibha Katre, died during treatment on Tuesday night at around 10:30 p.m. His father, Kishore Katre, is undergoing treatment in the ICU.
The accused has been arrested and booked for murder and attempted murder. His mobile phone has been seized, and further investigation is underway.
