BIG BREAKING: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a general manager of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Ramprit Paswan, along with three others, including a private company general manager, in connection with an alleged ₹15 lakh bribery case on Monday.
According to the CBI statement, Ramprit Paswan allegedly demanded ₹15 lakh in bribes for "extending undue favours in processing and passing the bills" related to contracts and works of the NHAI. The agency had been monitoring the transaction and launched an operation to catch the accused red-handed.
Officials stated that the CBI raided the meeting place where Ramprit Paswan was receiving a bribe from an employee of a private company. Both were caught immediately after the money was exchanged.
The CBI conducted searches at multiple locations, including Patna, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai, Purnia, Ranchi, and Varanasi. These raids led to the recovery of ₹1.18 crore in cash, along with several incriminating documents and digital devices.
"A total of ₹1,18,85,000 (approx.) was seized from the residences and offices of the accused," the CBI statement confirmed.
The CBI booked 12 accused, including, six public servants, holding the positions of Chief General Manager and General Manager (GM) in NHAI. One private company was involved in the bribery case. Four senior representatives of the private company, including two General Managers. One private contractor was also involved in this.
The CBI is continuing its investigation to uncover more details about the bribery network. Sources suggest that more officials and contractors may be involved, and further arrests could follow.
