BJP MLA Ramdular Gond jailed for 25 yrs for raping minor disqualified from UP Assembly

A first-time BJP MLA Ramdular Gond was disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Saturday.
Gond, who represented the Duddhi constituency in the Sonbhadra district of UP, on December 15, was sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl nine years ago, on November 4, 2014.
Representation of the People Act stated that a lawmaker sentenced to imprisonment of two years or more shall be disqualified 'from the date of such conviction' and remain disqualified for another six years after serving time.
The prosecution reportedly said as per the minor's lawyer Vikas Shakya, Gond tried to sexually assault the minor when she had gone to a nearby field to attend nature’s call.
The survivor returned home and informed her brother about the same and shared that Gond had even previously raped her several times in the last 12 months by threatening her.
The survivor's brother filed a complaint against Gond at Myorpur Police. However, Gond, then, was not an MLA; his wife was the Gram Pradhan when the incident took place. The case was transferred to the MP-MLA court after he became an MLA.
Gond's lawyer, before the latter was pronounced guilty on December 12, appealed for minimum punishment along with the surety that Gond would take complete care of the survivor and her family.
Additional District and Sessions Judge of MP-MLA court Ahsan Ullah Khan also slapped a fine of Rs 10.5 lakh on Gond.
The judge added that the fine would be used for the rehabilitation of the rape survivor. which would be used for the rape survivor's rehabilitation.
