BREAKING: Lalan Singh Resigns. As per Republic TV sources, Nitish Kumar will take over as JDU chief.

New Delhi: A day after dismissing reports of resignation, Janata Dal-United (JDU) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh on Friday stepped down from his post as JD(U) national president. As per Republic TV sources, Lalan Singh submitted his resignation at the party's conclave in Delhi and now Nitish Kumar will take over as JDU chief.  

“Nobody has been removed, he (Lalan Singh) has himself stepped down,” a JDU leader confirmed Lalan Singh's resignation in an exclusive conversation with Republic.

Yesterday, while speaking to Republic TV, Lalan Singh, considered a close aide of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said,"JD-U ek hai aur ek rahega (JD-U is united and will always be) I have shared a bond with Nitish Kumar for 37 years. BJP is trying to set a narrative, we are one”.

Will Nitish Take Over as JDU Chief? 

On being asked if Nitish will take over JDU chief, Bihar Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said, "There will national executive meeting of JD(U). If they accept our proposal then Nitish Kumar will be the party president. Lalan Singh told CM Nitish Kumar that he will be busy with elections, so he wants to hand over the post of party president to him and Nitish Kumar accepted it..."

With his resignation, Lalan Singh has joined the league of other party senior leaders, like George Fernandes, Sharad Yadav, RCP Singh, Upendra Kushwaha and poll strategist Prashant Kishor, who were previously replaced, despite sharing a close bond with Nitish Kumar.
