Kerala Governor Seeks Briefing on Gold Smuggling and Phone-Tapping Allegations
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has asked the state chief secretary and police chief to brief him on the recently reported remarks by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that groups are smuggling gold into the state and using the proceeds for 'anti-national activities,' an official source said in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
The Governor has directed Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan and Police Chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb to meet him at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.

Delhi CM Atishi Moves to Former CM Kejriwal's Residence Amid Controversy
Chief Minister Atishi shifted to bungalow number 6 on Flagstaff Road in north Delhi's Civil Lines on Monday, days after her predecessor Arvind Kejriwal vacated it and moved to a new address in Lutyens' Delhi, officials said.
Hours after the chief minister shifted to a new residence, the BJP claimed that the bungalow was yet to be handed over to the public works department for fresh allocation.
There was no immediate reaction to the BJP's allegations from the CM's office or the ruling Aam Aadmi Party.

FSDA Collects 10 Food Samples From Mathura for Testing
The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) in Mathura has collected 10 samples, including kuttu (buckwheat) and singhara (water chestnut) flour, from various markets for testing.
An official said further action will be taken following the test results.
Assistant Commissioner (Food) Dharmendra Pratap Singh said the collection was part of efforts to ensure food quality during the festive season.
"On Monday, the team gathered samples from markets at Govardhan Chauraha, Dhauali Pyau, and Kosi Kalan," he said Singh said the samples included two of sabudana (tapioca pearls) from Amar Colony near Govardhan Road, one of ghee from Radha Valley Colony, one of paneer from Basant Vihar Colony, and two of mustard oil from Dhauali Pyau and Sarai Shahji Kosi Kalan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Maldives on an official visit after President Mohamed Muizzu invited him to visit his country.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday said that PM Narendra Modi has accepted Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu’s invitation to visit Maldives during their bilateral meeting in New Delhi.
Notably, President Muizzu is on a visit to India. After the meeting between the two leaders, PM Modi said he was delighted to host Muizzu.

'Why Not?': Farooq Abdullah Hints at Post-Poll Alliance With Mehbooba's PDP Ahead of J&K Results
Ahead of counting of votes, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Monday said his party was open to the idea of taking support of Mehbooba Mufti's PDP to form government in the Union territory.
He also flayed the move to give powers to the Lieutenant Governor for nominating members to the five reserved seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, and said his party would approach the Supreme Court if the BJP-led Centre went ahead with it.
Abdullah, while ruling himself out of the race for chief minister's post, said statehood should be restored to Jammu and Kashmir so that the new government has powers to address the people's problems.

Jharkhand CM Asks Officials to Take Action Against BJP for Violating ECI Norms
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday directed all deputy commissioners to lodge cases against those violating Election Commission of India norms, days after opposition BJP announced its ‘Gogo Didi’ scheme for women ahead of the assembly polls.
The direction came after the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) alleged that the BJP was getting forms for its proposed scheme filled up by women, promising financial assistance of Rs 2,100 per month, “in violation of ECI norms that prohibit political parties to enrol voters for post-election beneficiary oriented schemes”.

Light Rain Likely in Parts of West Bengal During Durga Puja
The weather office on Monday predicted light rain at a few places over southern West Bengal during Durga Puja.
A partly cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain was likely in some areas of Kolkata during the festival, which would begin on October 9 and continue till October 12 Vijaya Dashami.
In northern West Bengal, light to moderate rain was likely at some places during the festival, the Met Department said.
The maximum day temperature in Kolkata is likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature will be around 25 degrees Celsius, it said.

Maharashtra Governor Says Tribal University to Come Up in Nashik District
Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Monday announced a tribal university will come up in Nashik district and noted adivasi communities are an integral part of the state's rich cultural fabric.
Speaking at a gathering, the Governor, who assumed office in July-end, declared he will visit all tribal areas of Maharashtra and also villages where members of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) reside.
"I have decided to set up a tribal university in Nashik, which will include world-class institutions like a medical college modelled after AIIMS, an engineering school akin to IITs, and a management school like IIMs. This initiative will ensure that tribal students have access to the best education, fostering both inclusion and excellence," said Radhakrishnan.

UP: Blast at Illegal Firecracker Making Unit, 2 Killed
A blast at an illegal firecracker making unit at a home here on Monday led to the death of two people, including a boy, and injuries to three, police said.
The explosion happened at the house, belonging to Mohammad Farooq, in Ragadganj village when some people were making firecrackers inside, they said.
Immediately after getting information about the blast, police and administration officials reached the spot and rescue operation was started.
Akash (15) and Lallu (30), Ishtiyaq (40), Ayaas (17) and Krishna Kumar (24) got injured in the incident and were rushed to Belsar community health centre from where they were referred to a medical college, they said.

CM Trying to Divert Public Attention From MUDA Case, Bringing Caste Census to Forefront: Kumaraswamy
JD(S) leader and Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of staging "drama" by trying to bring the caste census issue to the forefront, to divert the public attention from the MUDA site allotment case against him.
He hit out at the Congress government in Karnataka for trying to mislead the people on the issue to "cover up" their wrongs, as he also raised questions about the relevance of the report that was prepared about ten years ago.
Siddaramaiah today held discussions with ministers and legislators from backward-class communities, where they are said to have deliberated on the Socio-Economic and Education Survey report, popularly known as the "caste census" report, according to official sources.
Home Minister G Parameshwara on Sunday said the government has decided to place the caste census report before the Cabinet, where it will be discussed and decided whether to table it in the legislature or to make it public directly.

RG Kar Rape-Murder: CBI Files Charge Sheet Against Key Accused Sanjay Roy
The CBI has filed a charge sheet against the prime accused, Sanjay Roy, in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, officials said on Monday.
In its charge sheet filed before a special court in Kolkata, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Roy, who was working as a civic volunteer with the local police, allegedly committed the crime on August 9 when the victim had gone to sleep in the hospital's seminar room during a break, they said.
The agency did not mention the charge of gang rape, indicating that Roy alone committed the crime, according to the officials.
Kolkata Police had arrested Roy on August 10 on the basis of CCTV footage which showed him entering the seminar room in the early hours of August 9, they said.
The CBI, which took over the investigation on August 14 following a Calcutta High Court order, also took his custody and conducted a detailed interrogation, followed by a polygraph test.
