Mumbai: The Maharashtra capital is on high alert after intel agencies have warned the Mumbai Police for suspected terror threats; security in Mumbai has been heightened.
Mumbai Police on High Alert for Possible Terror Threats
The Mumbai Police has tightened security in the Maharashtra capital after an alert of possible terrorist threats from the central agencies. Sources said that after this alert, strict security arrangements have been made at religious places and other crowded places.
Mock Drills Being Conducted at Crowded and Religious Places
Police said, "We have been instructed to conduct 'mock drills' at crowded places and religious places. All DCPs of the city have been asked to pay special attention to security arrangements in their respective zones."
An official said that on friday, the police conducted a mock drill in the Crawford Market area, this is an area where there is a huge crowd and there are also two major religious places here.
Regarding the security drill, the police official said that it was a security exercise, but why such an exercise is being done suddenly was not told. The police further said, "Mock drills are being conducted at Crawford market and other places in mumbai in view of the upcoming festivals and elections."
All Temples in Mumbai on Alert
Sources said all temples in the city have been instructed to remain alert and report any suspicious activity as a precautionary measure.
In another news, a mosque in Mumbai's Pydhuni Zaveri Bazaar area received a bomb threat call on Thursday, following which an alert was issued in the area; the bomb squad had also reached the spot - this was most likely a mock drill conducted amid the security alert.
