BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, on Saturday, announced wrestling events for the coming days just a day after Olympian Sakshi Malik quit wrestling. While speaking to reporters on December 23, Singh said that that the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has planned to hold two events for Under-15 and Under-20 wrestlers starting December 28 to December 31.

The announcement comes even after he is no longer the WFI chief and was replaced by his 'loyalist' Sanjay Singh after an election.

"Because of some issues, national or state level wrestling events were paused in the country for 11 months," the BJP leader said. "If these tournaments are not organised within 31st, one complete year of the wrestlers will be affected," he further said.

"Making arrangements at all places is not possible but the infrastructure at Nandini Nagar is ready. The event must be organised before December 31 so the athletes' year does not go waste," he added.

Malik announced quitting wrestling on December 21 during a press briefing where she kept her shoes on the table as she conceded 'defeat.'

"We fought will all our might but could not succeed. I thank everyone for their support. If Brij Bhushan Singh’s business partner and a close aide is elected as the president of WFI, (then) I quit wrestling," she said.
