BSF apprehends 744 infiltrators in Tripura: 112 Rohingyas, 337 Bangladeshis among detainees in 2023

This surge in the arrest highlights a significant increase compared to previous years, signifying a spike in cross-border attempts.

Agartala: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura apprehended 744 individuals attempting to enter India from Bangladesh, marking the highest number in three years, as confirmed by BSF officials. Among those apprehended, 112 were identified as Rohingyas, 337 as Bangladeshis, and 295 as Indians. 

This surge in numbers indicates a significant increase compared to previous years, with 369 arrests recorded in 2022 and 208 in 2021. It is notable that within just a couple of years, both the number of infiltration attempts and the apprehensions have tripled from the figures observed in 2021.

"During 2023, the BSF detained a total of 744 infiltrators, comprising 112 Rohingyas, 337 Bangladeshis, and 295 Indians. This marked the highest number of infiltrator arrests in the frontier state over the past three years," stated the official.

The confiscated items included banned cough syrup, cannabis, Yaba tablets, and brown sugar valued at Rs 41.82 crore. Furthermore, 4 kg of gold was seized.

The BSF Tripura Frontier has been actively engaged in combating insurgency, maintaining border security, and preventing cross-border crimes. They operate under challenging weather conditions in remote and rugged terrains. The officer highlighted that Tripura shares an 856 km border with Bangladesh.
