The Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police successfully intercepted a drone smuggling contraband items in the Amritsar district of Punjab, as per reports on Tuesday, December 19. The joint effort resulted in the recovery of a drone and a packet containing suspected narcotics weighing 540 grams attached to it in a farming field near Dhanoe Khurd village.

According to a press release issued by the BSF Punjab Frontier, the interception came following specific intelligence regarding the intrusion of a drone. The vigilant BSF troops swiftly reacted and intercepted the suspected drone near Dhanoe Khurd village, adhering to established protocols.

In a joint search operation conducted with the Punjab Police, the troops discovered the drone and a small packet of contraband item, suspected to be heroin, affixed to the drone using a hold and release mechanism. The recovered drone was identified as a quadcopter, specifically a DJI Mavic 3 Classic model, manufactured in China, as outlined in the press release.

The recovered drone incident is not an isolated occurrence in the region. Instances of attempts to smuggle contraband items or firearms via drones from across the border into Indian territory have been a recurring challenge, particularly in Punjab. However, the BSF and Punjab Police have thwarted multiple such attempts in recent times, demonstrating their vigilance and commitment to curbing such illegal activities.

Once again, the recovered drone was identified as a 'Quadcopter' DJI Mavic 3 Classic model made in China. "In a search operation, at about 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, troops recovered 1 drone along with 1 packet of narcotics suspected to be heroin (gross weight: approximately 545 grams) wrapped with yellow adhesive tape," the official statement issued by the BSF said.
