Patna: A massive uproar erupted in the Bihar Legislative Council on Friday after a viral video allegedly showed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar talking during the national anthem at a function in Patna. The controversy led to a heated debate, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House until 2 PM.

The issue took a political turn as the Opposition, led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), disrupted the proceedings and demanded an apology from the Chief Minister. Adding to the trouble, a petition was filed in a Bihar court, accusing Nitish Kumar of disrespecting the national anthem.

Court Petition Filed Against CM Nitish Kumar

On Friday, advocate Suraj Kumar filed a petition before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (West), Muzaffarpur, seeking legal action against Nitish Kumar.

"The Chief Minister brought disrepute to the state by his conduct on Thursday during the inauguration of a sporting event. The court has been urged to direct the police to lodge a case against him under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act," the petitioner said.

The court has scheduled the hearing for March 25.

Bihar Assembly Turns Into Battlefield

As soon as the Assembly session started, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav raised the issue, leading to chaos. The Speaker urged him to raise the matter during Zero Hour, but the Opposition refused to back down. Minister Vijay Chaudhary tried to present the government's stance, but loud protests made it impossible to continue the proceedings.

Tejashwi Yadav’s Attack on Nitish Kumar

Outside the Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on Nitish Kumar, saying, "Respected Nitish Kumar ji is senior to me, and I hold him in high regard. But the way he disrespected the national anthem has left us deeply ashamed."

He further added, "The Chief Minister has made every Bihari hang their head in shame. It is perhaps the first time in the country's history that a sitting CM has insulted the national anthem."

Rabri Devi Demands Resignation

Former Bihar CM Rabri Devi also hit out at Nitish Kumar, demanding his resignation.

"If Nitish Kumar has lost his mind, he should step down from the CM's chair and make his son the Chief Minister instead. He must come to the Assembly and offer a public apology."

At the Bihar Legislative Council portico, RJD members protested with slogans, shouting, "Kathputli Mukhyamantri, istifa do!" (Puppet Chief Minister, resign!) and "Rashtragan ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan!" (India won’t tolerate insult to the national anthem!).

Misa Bharti Questions Nitish Kumar’s Mental Health

RJD MP Misa Bharti questioned Nitish Kumar's physical and mental condition and called for an assessment.

"During the national anthem, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar did not look physically and mentally well. I want to ask PM Modi and Amit Shah , do you think his mental state is fine? He keeps insulting women and children every day. The Centre must decide in whose hands Bihar is."

JDU Hits Back at Tejashwi Yadav

Defending Nitish Kumar, JDU leader Neeraj Kumar lashed out at Tejashwi Yadav, reminding him of his own political history.

"Tejashwi Yadav is the son of a convicted politician. Now he is preaching nationalism to a man whose father was a freedom fighter."

He further praised Nitish Kumar’s contributions, stating, “He placed the national flag in the hands of Dalits.” “He introduced horizontal reservation for the third generation of freedom fighters.”

Neeraj Kumar also highlighted that Nitish Kumar's policies had empowered individuals from marginalised backgrounds, allowing them to hold key government positions like SDM, DSP, and SDO.

With the court hearing set for March 25 and the political battle intensifying, the controversy over the national anthem snub is far from over. Nitish Kumar is now under legal and political pressure, and the coming days could decide his fate.
