Patna: Protests broke out in Patna on Friday against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after he was seen talking and laughing during the National Anthem at a public event a day earlier. The incident, caught on camera, has sparked outrage, with the opposition demanding his resignation and questioning his mental health. Opposition is trying hard to made a case against kumar over his mental and physical health that he is unfit to run a government and should submit his resignation.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and other opposition parties have launched protests, calling for Nitish Kumar’s removal from office.
RJD leader Mukesh Raushan condemned the act, saying, "The CM should apologize for insulting the National Anthem. His mental state is not well. He should be removed from the post, and President’s Rule should be imposed in Bihar. He is unwell and unfit to govern. A case of treason should be filed against him."
Nitish Kumar was attending the Sepaktakraw World Cup inauguration at Pataliputra Sports Complex in Patna on Thursday. While the National Anthem was being played, he was seen talking to IAS officer and Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, patting him on the shoulder and laughing. Meanwhile, the officer stood still, maintaining protocol.
The visuals have drawn sharp criticism, with opposition leaders calling it an "insult to the National Anthem" and questioning the Chief Minister’s conduct and his mental health.
Former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav also slammed the Chief Minister. Accusing him of disrespecting the state and the nation, Yadav said Kumar’s actions were unacceptable and showed his disregard for national symbols.
Speaking to media he said, “Bihar CM Nitish Kumar disrespected the national anthem yesterday and being a 'Bihari' I feel ashamed. The Chief Minister is the leader of the state and yesterday's incident is very unfortunate. This is the first incident in the history of Indian politics that a Chief Minister has disrespected the national anthem.”
He further said that, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar should apologise to the public of the nation...The leaders of BJP only do drama, where are the two deputy CMs of Bihar?... Bihar CM Nitish Kumar should retire..."
