Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasised on Sunday that there should be zero tolerance for crimes against women, urging strict action on cases of "love jihad," eve teasing, and chain snatching. He called for accountability at all levels, from beat constables to deputy superintendents of police.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a meeting with senior officials to address several key issues, focusing on women's safety, law and order, and public concerns.

“Our top priority is the safety of women. We cannot compromise on this. Immediate action must be taken on any report, no matter how small, regarding crimes like love jihad, chain snatching, and eve teasing. Women beat officers should remain active, and regular patrols must be ensured,” he stated. Adityanath emphasized that accountability for such incidents would extend from beat constables to deputy superintendents of police.

The chief minister also directed officials to promptly address public grievances, warning that disciplinary action would be taken against anyone submitting fake or misleading reports. “Officials should understand the mental state of those who come with complaints and work to satisfy them. Their performance will be judged based on the complainants' satisfaction and feedback,” he added.

Adityanath credited improved law and order, continuous dialogue, and cooperation from all sections of society for the peaceful and harmonious celebration of festivals in recent years. With the upcoming festival season, he called for heightened vigilance, stating, “This time is sensitive for law and order. The police administration must remain alert 24/7.” He also warned against those making "mischievous statements" that could provoke inter-community tensions during the festivals, urging senior officials to closely monitor activities in their regions.

Regarding the flood situation in several districts, the chief minister stressed the need for immediate relief efforts, ensuring the quality of relief materials. He also recommended installing solar fencing to prevent man-animal conflicts in affected areas and providing timely assistance to victims' families.

Adityanath raised concerns about recent indications of a conspiracy to damage railway tracks or cause accidents, noting that some arrests had already been made. “This is a serious matter. Police officers at the zone and range levels should stay in constant contact with the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force. Intelligence must be increased, and strict action taken against anarchists involved in this conspiracy,” he said.

He also announced a statewide cleanliness campaign from September 17 (Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's birthday) to October 2 (Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary), urging public participation. “Comprehensive cleaning and fogging operations should be carried out in both rural and urban areas in a mission mode,” Adityanath said.

Finally, addressing the recent collapses of dilapidated buildings, Adityanath urged municipal bodies and development authorities to launch campaigns to identify vulnerable structures and encourage residents to move to safer locations.
