Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA) has arrested a selection-grade police constable of J&K Police for his involvement in 'narcotics syndicate' that was allegedly behind a cross-border narcotic syndicate involved in terror funding. The arrested cop has been identified as Saif Din, who was posted to the IRP 4th battalion in North Kashmir's Kupwara district.
The syndicate was unearthed by SIA following investigation in a 2022 hawala case involving former minister and chairman of Nature-Mankind Friendly Party Jatinder Singh alias “Babu Singh”. The accused Babu Singh reportedly received a terror fund from Hizbul Mujahideen.
Investigation in the case revealed that a 'well-organised drug syndicate' was being operated by Mohd Sharief Chechi, former Sarpanch Farooq Ahmad Jungal and cop Saif Din. State Investigation Agency arrested Sharief Chechi in August this year and former Sarpanch Jungal was arrested earlier this month. SIA charge sheeted 12 accused in the case, while nine are under arrest while three who are operating from Pakistan are absconding.
Officials said that Saif Din was earlier involved in narcotics smuggling as well. He was booked in Shahpur Kandi Police station of Pathankot district of Punjab when 200 gm heroin was recovered from his possession. SIA conducted searches at his Jammu residence yesterday and seized electronic gadgets to further investigate his further links to dismantle the ecosystem of narcotics supplies active in J&K to ruin the youth and further generation of proceeds to fuel anti-national activities in India.
Searches were conducted on the directions of the Court of 3rd Additional Judge Jammu in connection with the case involving Babu Singh and a formal FIR vide number 73/2022 under sections 13, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 38, 39, 40 UAP 120B, 121 was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
