India sees single-day rise of 760 cases and two deaths in 24 hours. The fatalities were reported from Kerala and Karnataka.

New Delhi: India on Thursday reported a single-day rise of 760 cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours, taking the active tally of infection to 4,423, as per the updated data on Ministry of Health.

Furthermore, as per the health bulletin two deaths were also reported-- one each from Kerala and Karnataka.

For now Kerala tops the list with the most number of active cases. The state currently has 1,464 active infections tally. Karnataka stands second on the top chart with 1,175 active cases.

The number of daily cases in India earlier had declined till December 5, but saw a rapid surge after emergence of the new variant and cold weather conditions.

The daily numbers were in lakhs at the peak of the pandemic, in early 2020 and has witnessed over 4.5 crore people getting infected and over 5.3 lakh deaths reported in about four years since then across India.

According to the ministry's website, the number of people who have recuperated from the disease currently stands at over 4.4 crore with a national recovery rate of 98.81 per cent.
