19-year old held for sextorting Navi Mumbai local for Rs 43 lakh
Under interrogation, the 19-year-old from Rajasthan accused of sextortion revealed that he was involved in 13 similar crimes in Maharashtra and elsewhere.

THANE: Navi Mumbai police have arrested a 19-year-old man from Rajasthan for allegedly extorting more than Rs 43 lakh from a Maharashtra local using videos he took during WhatsApp calls. The accused, hailing from Dig in Rajasthan, reportedly made numerous video calls to the 34-year-old victim from Navi Mumbai during which both individuals were nude. According to a PTI report, the accused subsequently used recordings he made of such calls to extort a total of Rs 43, 22,900 from the Navi Mumbai man, threatening to spread the recordings on YouTube if the extortion demands were not heeded.
After the Navi Mumbai local lodged a complaint with the police, the authorities registered a case under IPC sections 384 (extortion), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation), following which the accused 19-year-old was tracked down using the bank account numbers he used for sextortion.
With the help of the Dig Police, Navi Mumbai police officials tracked down the accused in the village of Paldi on the border between Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, nabbing one Hamil Farid Khan on December 24.
A Navi Mumbai cyber cell official said that several mobile phones, sim cards and ATM cards have been recovered from the accused and around Rs 4,12,175 that was paid by the victim into several bank accounts has been frozen. Under questioning, the accused reportedly revealed that he was also involved in 13 similar crimes in Maharashtra and elsewhere. A probe is now being conducted in this regard.
