Four prison staff suspended after undertrial prisoner escapes from jail in UP

A police official identified the accused as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Auraiya district, who was sent to prison in a 2021 kidnapping case.

Four prison personnel deployed at Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district jail were suspended by the officials after an undertrial prisoner escaped from the district jail by scaling a prison wall. A senior police official confirmed the incident, saying that the accused was undertrial in a kidnapping case.

Talking to the media personnel, Etawah district jail Superintendent Kuldeep Bhadauria identified the accused as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Auraiya district. He was sent to prison in a 2021 kidnapping case.

Three teams have been formed to nab the accused, says police official

According to news agency PTI, the undertrial prisoner was out on bail for some time, but had returned to jail on October 27, 2023.

Meanwhile, on Saturday morning, the jail staff found him missing. As per information, he was sent to work in a garden inside the jail along with other inmates. A search was conducted in the entire jail, but he was not found.

The matter was later reported to the local police. A case was registered in the matter at Civil Lines police station and a search operation was launched to track the accused.

The police official said that three teams have been formed to nab the accused at earliest.
