Tragic b'day night: Engineer killed by classmate who underwent sex-change surgery to marry her
Vetrimaran asked Nandhini to pose for a picture, when he brought chains from his bike, and tied her hands and feet while telling her that it was for fun.
Chennai: In a horrifying incident on the eve of her 26th birthday, software engineer R Nandhini met a gruesome end at the hands of her childhood classmate in Thalambur near Kelambakkam, Chennai on Saturday.
Vetrimaran, an MBA graduate who had undergone a sex-change process and was previously known as Pandi Murugeshwari, was arrested for killing Nandhini.
According to police officials, both Vetrimaran and Nandhini studied in the same girl's school and shared a close friendship. However, things turned wild after the victim turned down Vetrimaran's marriage proposal, despite his repetitive persuasions.
Eight months ago, after completing her BSc degree in information technology, Nandhini got a job in Chennai and was staying with her uncle in the city. The accused there asked her to meet him on Saturday, December 23. After the two met, the transexual man brought her new clothes, took her to an orphanage near Tambaram and made a donation.
He later insisted on dropping Nadhini home and stopped at a deserted place at Ponmar on the way. There Vetrimaran asked Nandhini to pose for a picture, when he brought chains from his bike, tied her hands and feet while telling her that it was for fun.
He later refused to release her despite her requests and slit her neck and arms with a blade before setting her on fire. He later fled the crime scene.
Nandhini who was struggling to hold on to her life, was spotted by the people in the area and the police were informed.
During the investigation when the police called the accused, he came down to the crime scene and told them that Nandhini was his friend and even went with the police team and residents of the area while taking the girl to a nearby hospital.
However, Nandhini succumbed to her injuries late on Saturday, but by then, Vetrimaran had gone missing. He was later nabbed by the police on Sunday.
In his statement, he said that he was upset over Nandhini refusing to be in a relationship with him. Vetrimaran went through a sex-change process at a private hospital a few years back, however, Nandhini told him that they had no future together.
For now, the accused is in judicial custody and further investigation is underway.
