Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata party has demanded an arrest of Curly Tales owner Kamiya Jani and bureaucrat-turned Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader VK Pandian after an interview recorded within the premises of Puri’s Jagannath Mandir went viral on social media. The Odisha unit of BJP has questioned how an alleged promoter of beef consumption was allowed entry to the revered shrine.

Jatin Mohanty, Odisha BJP General Secretary demanded the YouTuber's arrest along with BJD leader VK Pandian under section 295 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of crores of Hindus.

"It has come to light that BJD leader VK Pandian along with YouTuber Kamiya Jani made a video on tasting of 'Mahaprasad' at Puri Jagannath temple. Earlier, Kamiya Jani posted a video eating beef. Beef-eaters are strictly not allowed inside Jagannath temple," said Jatin Mohanty in a press briefing in Odisha.

Mohanty also alleged that a video camera was used on the temple premises which is banned by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). “In Section 30 (A) of Sri Jagannath Temple Act, 1952, it is clearly mentioned that it is a capital offense to make a video of any prohibited item in the temple which has been refused by the temple administration. As both VK Pandian and Kamiya Jani are involved in the crime, the temple administration should immediately file a case against them and prosecute and arrest both of them,” said the BJP general secretary.

Temple admin refutes claims

Meanwhile, taking to the social media platform X, SJTA called the allegations of taking a camera to the temple premises, baseless. "The allegation made by a certain political party about a YouTube influencer taking a camera to the temple premises is completely baseless. There is no truth in this. If anyone has any evidence, if they present it, it will be investigated and necessary action will be taken," SJTA posted on X.
